Summer Learning Journey Teaser

Summer Learning Journey Teaser

On Thursday everyone in Korimako (apart from those that were away) had to start the summer learning journey teaser week tasks.
What is Summer Learning Journey: Summer learning journey is a whole bunch of set up tasks to keep us on top of our learning in the summer holidays.
for the teaser week I choose the task:    DAY 2: SPORT & LEISURE
Activity 1: Faster than a speeding bullet

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is a world famous athlete (sprinter). She currently holds the record for the 100m sprint and has been crowned “world’s fastest woman” a record four times!

Shelly-Ann was born and educated in Jamaica, a small country in the Caribbean that has produced many successful athletes and sportspeople. During her college years she did well in athletics, winning the Jamaican Schools Championships at the age of 16. She subsequently went on to win many races at both the Olympics and the World Championships. Over the years people have compared her running speed and that of other elite sprinters, like Usain Bolt, to many things, including animals!

When people make these comparisons, they often say things like: “Shelly-Ann is as fast as a cheetah” or “Shelly-Ann is fast like a fighter jet”. These comparisons are examples of similes. In many cases, similes are not exactly true.

1.     as slow as a snail
2.        as cold as Antarctica
3.        as tall as the b.f.g.
4.             as smart as Steven Hawkins

5.        as fast as a cheater

please give me feed-back!
Thank You!

My Spectacular Speech

                                            Hi, welcome to another post.
But this one is not any blog post, what is on the slide is a thing that does not normally come up. It only comes up once a year!!! it is my speech!
my speech topic is:Smile and wave when insulted or bullied!
This took me about two weeks and was not that hard!
I really enjoyed making my speech and presenting it in front of my home-base because I wanted to see how much I improved till last year and hopefully I get in!
(this may be edited a lot)

Did I Get In:yes I got in!

I presented the speech well but did not get a placing

Sketchpad Cybersmart

Hello it is me, Zoë again

Today me and the year sixes at Marshland School have been doing Cyber smart today. But because some of the school (year 5 and up) have been away at Athletics Zones the remainder of us for Cyber smart have been doing something a little different! The teacher played the song Stressed Out by Twenty One Pilots for us to sing-along to and the reason they played that particular song was because it is about how you do not have to stress when you are a little kid but you do when you are an adult so, we had to make a piece of art on the site Sketchpad  about an adults life and this was my one (it was a diagram.)

Nerve-racking Narritives

In writing for term four the focus is on narratives, because for the end of year exams/tests the piece of Writing that we have to do is on narratives,
This piece of writing and planning should take about one week and a half.
I really enjoyed writing about narratives because you can use your imagination.
I did not find this activity that hard, but the punctuation was a bit challenging.
If you got to write a narrative what would it be about?
Did you enjoy my story?

This Is May Not Finished!!!

Marvellous Measurement Maths

Kia Ora it's me again!

In maths for the past week we have been learning about Measurement, so that means that we have been learning about Area and Perimeter our task was to choose  some shapes and do the perimeter and area for them on two separate slides. this task took me about 20 minutes and I was a bit confused on what to write and how to figure it out so I had a little help on the Area slide.

This slide is just for taking notes of things so we remember or if we forget we just go back onto it.
What one did you enjoy more Perimeter or Area?

I hope you enjoyed it!

Awesome Holiday S.I.T.

When my class got back to school from the holidays we had to make a holiday S.I.T. (something interesting something surprising and something troubling). I choose to do it about the time me, my Mum, my Uncle and cousin went to the new town library and it was huge. I really liked this activity because I like doing S.I.Ts because I like writing about what happens to me. I did not find this activity to hard! This slide and screencastify took me about 30-40 minutes to make!

Have you ever been to the town library? If so what was your favourite thing in it?

Term 4 Writing Starters

In writing for term 4 my literacy group has been doing writing starters at the start of writing time!
Mrs Atkinson shows us a picture on the TV and we have to write 3 sentences about what we see, taste and hear (these is the first one for week 1  up to Haunted House but I will keep on adding more storeys). Hopefully the teacher will give us the photos to put on those slides

Goal Ladder For Term 4

On the first week of term 4 we have been doing goal ladders, one for school work and one for the five R's (Resilience, Respect, Reciprocity, Reflectiveness and Resourcefulness) I choose resilience. For the work one I choose To Improve. Hopefully I will achieve them by the end of the term.

Why Children Should Not Be Able To Vote

Why NZ Children Should Not Be Able To Vote

INTRO

Hello and welcome while you are here to read/listen today I will be trying to persuade you to believe alongside me on why Nz primary school kids should NOT be able to vote.
Imagine, kids, yes those lil 5 year olds as well, being able to vote, there would be people not up for the job in high roles everywhere!

BRIBERY

My first reason is about bribery, if you don’t know what bribery is I will explain. Bribery e.g. where someone is maybe they want you to do something so they start to tempt people by saying they would do something like save the planet somehow that's the good way, but the bad way is where they say “ok, little kid” in a deep scary or kind voice “Vote for me in the next election and I will give you hmmm, Ahh I know Lollies”
“Lollies really?” they say really excited like they have won an outrageous bargain
“Yes lollies” they say in a kind voice
So that would be bribery and one of my reasons why kids should not be able to vote.
But you might be wondering: why would that not be the same with adults? And that answer is because adults are more mature and children are not, Hmph.

BRAINS AND WISDOM

My Second reason for the day is about the kids brains, now don’t think I’m a zombie saying that, because I’m not, I mean it in a how-smart-they-are way. Those children are just not smart enough  to choose outstanding, heroic, important leaders for countries and cities: they have only been around for 5-14 years and so they have not been around long enough to know what these leaders are like they are going to have to wait.

Children Still Will Be Able To Vote
For my final reason of the day I will write about them being able to vote when they are older, yup, that's right they will still be able to vote when they grow up and up and up some more until they are adults then they can vote so they will be able to vote so it is fine but for the moment they are still little children not really needing to worry about any of that stuff  only when they are older that is when they deserve to be able to vote

Conclusion
Finally we have come to our devastating conclusion. In this piece of interesting writing you have learnt that primary school children (ages 5-14) should not be able to vote for important roles that could change our country.

Hi again,
This week in Cyber Smart Mr Sutherland told the year 6's to do a reflection on what we were thankful of. Because this terms focus on an "R" is Reflectiveness (reflecting) which means to look back at what you have done. so this is looking back on what we are thankful for. I am thankful for: water, food, netball, my dog (Benji), A bed, plants, school, grass and a bed. (Also family)

Please comment for what I can do next time.

Exciting Epro8 Reflection

What IS Epro8? Epro8 is an engineering and building challenge that is held for schools to sign up for in New Zealand to send a team/teams of 4 to do for 2 and a half hours.

Who went: some parents, Miss Woodham, My team: Ollie, Adam, Shelby and I, Team 2 Zara, Sophia, Lucas and Fletcher.S.
What Happened My team came 2nd and qualified for the semi-finals, the 2nd team came 8th.

When_______.

Why, because we wanted to have a good competition also for fun.

Where, Chisnallwood Intermediate School hall.

What I did well, I think I was good at the building and a bit of the electronics.

I enjoyed all of it but in particular the building. I felt great for overall for coming 2nd and had heaps of fun.
I learnt not to stress when you have an hour to go and that triangles are the strongest shape.
Maths, I need to have a little practise on adding and subtracting because Adam did most the maths

If I did it again I would re-measure before hitting the buzzer
I think out of all the 5 rs (Respect, Resilience, Reciprocity, Reflective and Resourcefulness. ) I used Respect and Resilience the most.
